Product Review: Bourjois Air Mat Foundation

If you ask me if there's a makeup item that I think I'll never have enough of, I would say, foundations!  I only have one face but I think I have around 20 foundations in my kit.  Oh yes, I kid you not!  Well, it all started when I was still doing makeup on clients.  I have to make sure that I have a foundation for most, if not all, skin types.  And you know that if you are a makeup artist, one shade of each kind is never enough.  You should have at least three - light, medium and dark.
Now that I only do makeup on myself (and on my friends on some occasions), you might say that my "addiction" to collecting foundations might have stopped.  Engk, wrong! Hahaha!  And if before, I lean towards high-end brands when it comes to foundations, I have recently realized that even those that we call drugstore makeup also deserves a spot in my makeup arsenal. One of the drugstore makeup brands that I am loving is Bourjois. Aside from their lippies and their eyeliners, their foundations are also good.  I was sent a sample of their new AirMat Foundation and have been loving it ever since.

LA Splash Smitten Waterproof Liptint Mousse in Charmed, Lovegood and Nymph-adora

And so after hearing a lot of good (and some bad) things about these long-wearing matte lipsticks from LA Splash, I finally gave in and ordered a few.  Inggiterang palaka, I know.  But after trying them, I told myself I should've jumped into the bandwagon a long time ago.  And maybe, just maybe, this blog post won't be this late.  Hahaha, but that's fine.  I'm used to being outdated. And besides, my wallet won't like it if I always try to be updated with what's new in the makeup industry.  Tee-hee!

For today's post, it will be about the three shades that I got from the LA Splash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse. Believe me, I had a hard time choosing shades.  There are a number available at DTCMakeup site, and as much as I wanted to get everything, I had to keep myself from doing so.  Thank god for Sol, for guiding me and suggesting shades that she knows I would wear.  That's one thing that I love about her, unlike other sellers, she won't be pushing you to buy stuff that she knows you won't even get to use.  So yes, I highly recommend her and her shop.

LA Splash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse
LA Splash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse in Charmed, Lovegood and Nymph-adora
These lippies are so pigmented and the color stays true all day.  I'm pretty sure you've come across some lippies that change color as the day go by.  These lippies don't.  It's liquid-y when first applied and then dries up to a waterproof and smudgeproof finish that will not transfer (as long as you let it set first). It might fade a bit on the inner part of the lips, but overall, it still looks least for me.  Not sure for the others though.

So here are the shades that I got from this line:

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 15: The Story Behind The Last Text I Sent

"Yes, NOW."
Woah, too serious no!? Hahahaha. It's actually a message that I sent to one of my colleagues regarding something that he needs to submit at the soonest.  He was asking if it can wait until the EID holiday is over but I told him why wait, if he can actually do it now. Besides, the deadline was way too long ago and now we are being called out for our non-compliance.

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation Dubai Launch

It seems like the digital revolution will never end. Years ago, advances in the camera technology and HD TV brought about the need for a new level of foundation that will make one look naturally flawless on-camera. With HD cameras, the slightest imperfection will be highlighted. And who would want that?  This need was met by Make Up Forever with their original HD foundation but as we all know, technology is fast evolving. Now, we have 4K HD which means 4x the amount that a regular HD camera has. So yes, this literally means that every little pore will be hugely magnified!
But don't be scared, Make Up Forever has yet again came up with a foundation that will make skin look ultimately flawless and at its perfection all the time, on and off camera.
Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation
A reformulated, but a lot more better than their original HD foundation, this liquid foundation promises a naturally flawless finish that is undetectable and light on the skin.  It's like your skin but 100000000x better!  Whoaaa, selfie-addicts rejoice!
The launched was held at the Armani Hotel Ballroom in Burj Khalifa last September 7 and was attended by key celebrity makeup artists here in the Middle East.

Look Like A Sunkissed Goddess All Year Round with Maybelline Dream Bronze BB Glow Perfector and Dream Sun Bronzing Powders

Do you love wearing bronzers? Honestly, I don't.  I just feel like it makes me look muddy and well, different.  Different like I look old or something. I have this idea that if you want to look younger, you should be wearing pinks. I am so wrong, I know!
But I guess I was bound to change my opinion when it comes to wearing bronzers. Besides, who wouldn't want to glow ala-Jennifer Lopez? So today, I'd be sharing with you two products that absolutely changed my view on bronzing products. But first, can I just say that there were no bronzing products that I really liked in the past.  I might have tried wearing some before, but never really incorporated them in any of my makeup looks.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 14: One Thing I Never Learned

We are on the 3rd week of the challenge and I have a lot of catching up to do!  Sigh.
Anyway, please give me a chance. I'll try to do my best to make up for this challenge. I'll be doing a few adjustments. For example:  for some days when I really couldn't think of what to write, I'll just replace it with the succeeding topics just so I won't get stuck.  Deal!? Deal.
For today's topic, I was actually to think of two. I know the challenge asks for just one but let me give you two.
First....I never learned how to swim.

I remember that my family did try to send me to swimming lessons when I was younger but I said "No." Why? Because you have to be in a swimsuit.  And I don't wear swimsuits.  Well, I do now at times,  but I am still not confident.  I might have tried wearing swimsuits recently but expect me to be just in one corner  or with a huge beach towel wrapped around me whenever I'd go walking around.  Case on point: I grew up thinking that for one to be in a swimsuit, she should have THE body.  And I am not talking about just any kind of body.  You know what I mean.  I know, I know. I am absolutely a moron to think that way.  Now that I am already an adult, all the more that I am not confident wearing a swimsuit. I guess that's how it is when you didn't get used to it.

When I was younger, I can't remember if rash guards are already available. From what I remember, swimsuits lang.  And so since I don't like wearing swimsuits, that means no swimming lessons for me.

My husband did try teaching me how to swim a few months back. The result? We always end up fighting! Hahaha.  So we decided to stop or else we might end up getting an annulment. LOL!

Second thing I never learned?  I never learned how to forgive myself. I always forgive others on whatever they might have done wrong to me, but I don't know how to do the same for myself if I did wrong to others.  I wish I would learn how.  Sometimes the guilt is too much for me to bear.  And that guilt I often use as an excuse whenever they would do something wrong.  I'll always be like "Oh, he/she did that because I did her/him wrong in the past. So it's fine."  But yes, it's absolutely not fine. But because of what I did, I just end up blaming myself for whatever that person would be like towards me. I wish I'd be like them at times.  But I simply can't.  I easily get angry, but I can't hold on to that anger for long.  So I guess there would be nothing in this world that I won't be able to forgive.  Nope, I am not mabait.  Tanga might be the right word.

K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner in Brown Black

Have you ever been in a situation where you have to make a tough decision of choosing between two sides? And it was just too hard and you just wanted to be in the middle instead?
Case on point:  Choosing between a black eyeliner and a brown eyeliner. A brown eyeliner might look too soft on you while black will look too harsh, or unnatural.  I mean, don't tell me you never had such experience of choosing which of the two shades you should wear. Wait, you didn't?  Like, ever? Oh well fine, it's just me then! LOL.
Anyway, now we, I mean I, will no longer have to be in such predicament.  Thanks to K-Palette (still the best eyeliner for me!) for coming up with a shade that's perfectly between their Super Black and Deep Brown eyeliners.

K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner in Brown Black, Php795
Just like the first two (Super Black and Deep Brown), this one has a glossy finish. It is still very longwearing and is smudge-proof. You can go swimming with this on, provided you don't rub your eyes while still wet.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 13: A Memorable Stranger

This happened around '98 while I was in a bus going to Baguio. It was almost midnight (I usually take the late night trip as I prefer arriving in baguio early morning) and I was sick. I have a high fever and have been coughing and sneezing like there's no tomorrow.

I remember going down the bus during one of the bus stops to buy medicine but when I went back to the bus, somebody was already sitting on my seat (aisle seat). I had little to no energy to confront the lady who took my seat so I sat next to the window instead.  I went back to sleep and I knew my head kept on banging the window.  You know when you sleep while on a sitting position and you lose control over your upper body and your head just starts swinging side to side?  My head was already hurting  but since I was too sick, I just choose to go back to sleep each time I hit my head on the window.

I was like that for hours then I heard somebody said "Miss, can we swap seats please?" He was talking to the lady sitting beside me, yes, t he one who stole my seat.  I didn't get to hear everything he said but I think he said something like he knows me.  So they swapped seats. I looked at him and he smiled. Usually, I'd smile back but again, I was too sick. I went back to sleep then I felt my head hit the window again. I fixed myself and closed my eyes, then when I felt like I was again going to hit my head, I felt a hand swooped my head away from the window. I looked and it was the guy sitting next to me. He placed my head on his shoulder and he said "you can sleep there so you won't hit your head on the window." I was shocked, but I appreciated the gesture. He's trying to help and I need help, so why not. Besides, it was not like he's trying to take advantage or anything. He went down when we arrived at another bus stop and when he got back, he had a cup noodle with him. He said I should eat then drink my medicine again, which I did.

I was able to sleep soundly after that. At times I could feel his hand holding my head to make sure it won't hit the window whenever the bus would turn.  I felt safe and comfortable.  I slept the entire trip and when I woke up, we were already in Baguio and was just in time for us to go down the bus.  We got up and when I looked at him, it was only then when I saw that he's wearing a white uniform from another university in Baguio. I think he's a medical student.  He smiled and asked me how I'm feeling and I said I'm fine. I sheepishly said "thank you" and he replied "You are most welcome."  He let me walk out the aisle first. Then I just realized how embarrassing it was, because who knows, I might have been sleeping with my mouth open and with my saliva dripping. LOL! Thank God di pa so ang camera phones that time. So I walked fast and I knew that he was trying to catch up with me. I walked faster, hailed a taxi and left.  I looked back and when he saw me looking, he smiled and waved his hand goodbye.

I know I should've at least asked for his name, but I didn't. Naunahan na ako ng hiya and besides, he didn't ask my name either.  But yes, I was really thankful that there was this stranger who took care of me. He could've just slept the entire trip but he looked after me instead.  I could no longer remember how he looks like, but I will always remember his kindness towards another stranger.  Faith in humanity restored!

Rimmel Oh My Gloss! in Go Gloss or Go Home and Snog

Are you a lip gloss kind of person? I am! For me it's the fastest way to put some colour on your lips without having to worry that you'd look too made up after.  They have a bit of colour and have a lovely, shiny finish.   I'm not really a fan of matte lippies but if ever I wear them, I apply a bit of lipgloss on the middle of my lips. It makes my lips appear fuller and look like I have a perfect pout.

I was sent some samples of the Rimmel Oh My Gloss! lip glosses and today I'd be sharing with you some swatches and my thoughts on them.  These lip glosses are part of Rita Ora's collaboration with Rimmel called the Colourfest Lips and Nail Color Collection for 2015 Spring/Summer season. I've posted some information and some swatches of the nail colours in this collection some months ago and if you want to check it out, please click here.

A Glimpse Of The Past At Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar

When I was still studying, one of my favourite subjects is History, specifically Philippine History.  What others find to be boring, I find to be exciting. Does this mean I am boring? Hahaha! Hopefully not.

I remember having a blast in the streets of Vigan which is famous for their ancestral houses.  There was this certain eerie feeling I get when I look at old houses.  It's as if somebody is going to peek thru those closed windows and instead of being scared, I sort of hope that somebody would.  Weird, but maybe I was thinking that if ever I'd see ghosts, they would be in the likes of Maria Clara and Jose Rizal.

I wanted to go back to Vigan and get to enjoy a bit of our history again but we just didn't have the time for the long travel. Good thing there's one place near my hometown (Balanga)  where you can also get the feeling of being transported back in time.  Where else but in Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a heritage park and an open-museum located in Bagac, Bataan which was opened to the public last 2010.  The park showcases a collection of 27 spanish colonial buildings and stone houses that were dismantled from its original locations in Manila and other places in the Philippines. These buildings were dismantled brick by brick, then transported to Bagac, and then reassembled and restored.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 12: A Friend

I have a friend whom I've hurt badly.  She decided to cut our communication and even blocked me on one of her social media accounts.  I can't blame her though, as what I did is really unbecoming of a friend. I didn't know what came to me that day. I thought it was just one of those days when I can just post what I think and feel without hurting anybody. Yeah, I know may tatamaan and all, but I didn't expect that it will cause me to lose a good friend.  I could've talked to her and confronted her instead, but no, nagparinig ako.  And just when I thought that my status had already been forgotten, she confronted me and asked what's the real deal behind it and when I admitted, she ended up getting really hurt.  I might not have seen her during the time we were exchanging messages about it, but I can feel that she was indeed hurt. I can almost see her crying.

Honestly, if I could bring back time, I will not even think about doing it. I will confront her instead, sermunan her even...anything, but not make parinig like what I did.  I didn't mention her name, yes, but people who knew might have done some talking and things became worse.  I really don't know. I'm not gonna blame anybody else. And I don't care what they said to her, all I know is I've hurt her. And for that, I am really sorry.

Despite me hurting her, she did visit me in the hospital when I got confined last July. It came to me as a surprise, because she hasn't been talking to me for more than a month already.  She came there as if nothing happened. I was really happy to see her. I wanted to talk to her about what happened, but I thought what's the use of opening a can of worms?  Nothing. So I guess, it's all water under the bridge.

But I think I could be wrong.

Things aren't like what they are used to be. She's cold.  She talks to me yes, but I can feel that she's holding back.  She's still hurt, she admitted that and needs more time to heal. I really can't blame her. I do wish to be given another chance, a full chance at that, but who am I to ask for that from somebody I've hurt. Wala akong karapatan. I would've forgiven her totally, should I be in her shoes, but we're different.  I can't expect her to be like me, and vice-versa.  All I can do for now is to move on with my life, and wait until the day she'd call me kapatid again instead of  "Girl."

To you my friend, my kapatid, I am really sorry. I wish the day would come when we'll again be like the way we were before. I miss you.

It's Love At First Spritz with See By Chloe Si Belle

I really can't call myself a perfume addict since I'm not that adventurous when it comes to perfumes. I'm not the type who collects perfumes on a whim. If I like a scent, I'd probably buy that up to nth number of times until I get introduced to another scent that I would like next. But of course I have some favorites, like the D&G Light Blue, that I make sure I won't run out of on any given day. Geesh, I love that scent so much I think I've finished more than 20 bottles already since I got introduced to it. I kid you not!
Today I'd be sharing with you this scent that I've been wearing so often lately that I think my D&G Light Blue is already getting jealous. I won't be surprised if one day I'll just see it on the floor, broken into pieces. Nag-suicide na pala, hahaha!

See By Chloe Si Belle
See By Chloe Si Belle

See by Chloe Si Belle, which means "So Beautiful", is a delicate and feminine scent inspired by the charming grace of a young Parisian woman. It opens with an unusual birch leaf note, which brings modernity and edginess to the fragrance right from the top. A swirling breath of orange blossom and gardenia melt together and convey delicacy and femininity. The fragrance keeps flowing to reveal a refined combination of white cedar and musks.

For me it's a modern sexy floral scent that would suit women of all ages. It's sweet, but not overly sweet and smells so feminine. The scent is just so fresh and uplifting, perfect for our still-warm temperature over here in the sandpit. It stays on for a good 5-6 hours, which isn't bad.
And the bottle? Gorgeous! At first I was reminded of a little bird cage with dainty ribbons hanging on its sides then I read somewhere that it was actually inspired by a pleated skirt  that swivels oh-so gracefully when you walk. Ahh, so dainty and lady-like!
See By Chloe Si Belle is available exclusively at Wojooh stores and priced at AED320 (50ml) and AED410 (75ml).

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 10: Traffic

Quick story:
It was the New Year's Eve back in '12 when I told myself, I will no longer curse or say bad words. I was pretty much doing a great job for the first few days of the year, until I drove back to Manila and reached Edsa.
I'm sure you know what happened next.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challege - Day 9: Something That Happened in the Mall

One incident that happened in the mall that I will never forget is when my week-old cellphone got stolen. It was just a few days before Christmas. Me and my sister went inside People are People to check out their sale items when I felt a slight tug on my shoulder bag. I looked down to check on my bag but I already knew something was wrong. I felt like my heart's in my throat. I knew it was the girl who have been cramming herself against me when the shop's not even crowded.  Right after I felt that slight tug, she went straight to the door. I was walking after her while trying to check on my bag but she was rushing.  I was caught in between trying to catch up on her and checking my bag.  And so yeah, my phone's nowhere to be found. I felt my knees went weak, I wanted to cry...and I did.
After 3 hours of mulling over that incident, I went and bought a new phone.
Lesson of the story? Stop crying over spilled milk. Get up and refill your cup.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 8: My Worst Birthday

Worst birthday?  Hmmm...I would have to say my 18th birthday.  I was in 2nd year college and since it was summer, I was up there in Baguio for the summer classes.  I had a cake, pansit and a lasagna courtesy of my landlady and my board mates. I wasn't really expecting a grand birthday just because it's my debut, but at least I should've my family with me.  Mom was in abroad that time and she did promise me a debut party when she comes back but it didn't happen. My Lolo passed away weeks after my birthday, so Mom had to go home. She did  ask me after if I still want the party and of course, I said No. I mean who would want to celebrate that time.

So yeah, I guess among all my birthdays, that has got to be the one when I felt less happy.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 7: A Neighbor

I met him when we were still living in a low-rise building somewhere in Espana, near UST sometime in 2001. We  met when I was rushing down the stairs crying after having a huge fight with my boyfriend.  I was crying so hard I didn't see somebody coming towards me. I bumped into him and when he asked me if I was okay, I looked up and just cried even more.  He led me downstairs where we sat and there he tried to console me.

When I stopped crying, he introduced himself and he said he's playing basketball in one of the universities in Manila. He said he wanted to be a famous PBA player someday.  When he mentioned his last name, I asked him if he's related to a famous PBA player back then. We became friends since then and whenever we'd see each other in the building, we sit down for a bit and exchange stories. He's a nice guy, a gentleman and I was really able to see his passion with his craft.  I told him that someday he will be famous, and that hopefully when that day comes, he will still get to remember me.

In some unfortunate turn of events, we stopped being friends.  He came to see me in Bataan and I was surprised.  He didn't know exactly where I live so he just sent me a message asking me to see him and that he's waiting in Jollibee. Hahaha, Jollibee talaga.  I wanted to come, but I didn't.  I was scared. My relationship status at that time was so complicated and I didn't want him to be involved.  So I ignored his calls and messages.

After that, whenever I would see him in the building, he had his head down. He was trying to avoid me obviously.  I didn't get the courage to talk to him about what happened. So for quite sometime, we just continued ignoring each other. Then we moved to another place and never got to see him again.

Fast forward to sometime in 2011 or 2012, I saw his face on a billboard along Edsa.  I was so shocked to see him. Sikat na siya!  And yes, he became a PBA player.  I was a Ginebra fan, so when they stopped playing, I also stopped watching the PBA. So I never knew he got in and got a name for himself.

Looking back, nakakatuwa lang isipin that I got to know this sikat guy. He was my neighbor.  I'm happy for him.  I hope that he was able to forgive me for ignoring him.  I didn't mean to. I just didn't want things to become complicated even more that time.  I'm pretty sure he does not remember me anymore.  But if he does, sana makapagpa-fansign ako.

Congrats, Gilas Pilipinas!

MYLBB: Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in RD203

So many times I've tried, but I still lean towards pinkish nudes when it comes to lip colors.  I try to be adventurous as I can, but I think I just can't be as adventurous as I am with eye makeup.

That being said, let me share with you today a lipcolor that I have loved, and still loving, since the day I got it.

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD203
Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in RD203

I got my first tube from the Dutyfree in US and since then, this tube never left my makeup kit.  Or maybe at times it did. LOL!
This is my emergency go-to lippie on days that I can't seem to decide what shade to wear or when I realize come mid-day that my lipstick is a bit off with my look. IMHO, this shade is universal at it can match any makeup look.
Shiseido Lacquer Rouge RD203 swatch
See how purrtttyy this shade is?

It reminds me of my another favorite, the MAC Please Me.

It applies smoothly on the lips and it doesn't feel heavy. It's moisturizing but not sticky. Pigmentation is great too. For this particular shade, it comes off a bit sheer but can totally be layered for more opacity.

How about you, what is your go-to lippie?

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 6: Kiss

Oppss, I almost failed the challenge today..I mean yesterday.  It was such a crazy day at work and just when I got the time to breathe, the "monthly visitor" decided to pay a visit.  Now that explains why I was being moody this past weekend. And why I constantly wanted to stuff myself with chips and chocolates. Ha!

But just like what they say, "It's better late than never!" So here I am, at almost 1am in the morning, writing my entry to this Writing My Life Challenge - Day 6.

The Kiss

It didn't particularly say what kind of kiss. So I am free to assume that this might be about that special kiss that you experienced or you might want to experience. I'd go with the former so yes, for this entry, I'd  be writing about my first kiss.

I had my first kiss 21 years ago. It happened sometime in March '94 when I was in junior high and it was with my first boyfriend. It was around 8pm, and he had just brought me home after I spent some time at their house (not for some hanky panky ha!) but to interview her Mom (who was then a school principal) for our English project.  We were outside the gate waiting for a tricycle (buhay-promdi, hahaha) and since there was no sign of one coming, we decided to walk a bit towards the kanto of our street. And then it happened.  We were right in the middle of the dark road, just below the Camachile tree (where he would say there's a kapre just to scare the hell out of me), when he turned his face towards me and kissed me.  I was so shocked I wasn't able to move.  I just stood there, with eyes closed, my whole body numb..and my lips pressed together, hard. Hahaha!  Dyaskeng bata, I even felt his tongue trying to find its way into my mouth but I just pressed my lips harder.  LOL!  When he stopped, he looked at me and he was about to say something when I turned my back and said "Goodnight!"  And then I ran going back to our house.

I went to my room still shocked.  I feel my face burning and I felt the urge to cry. Damn, my knees were shaking too! Hahaha.  Grabe pala ang first kiss, nakakapanghina.

Less than an hour later, he called. And he said sorry, to which I replied, "let's not talk about it."  I was not mad, but I was like more of embarrassed to talk about it.  Hahahah!  When I saw him the next day at school, I felt awkward.  Nakakahiya talaga. Buti na lang, masunurin si first boyfie...he didn't mention anything about that kiss since then.  But of course, he kissed me again..but that happened a month later.

Now, almost 22 years later, he still kisses me.  Unlimited pa, hahaha! Yes, I got married to my first first first everything. Ayiiiii!

Make Up Forever Aqua Shadows in 24E and 4E

It's Sunday and for us here in this part of the world, it means BACK TO WORK!

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. Yes, Sunday isn't my favourite day of the week (and so is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, LOL!) but it doesn't mean I'm gonna just sit around and throw tantrums the whole day (though sometimes I wish I can). I gotta get my butt to work because it pays the bills, funds my upcoming you-know-what and whatnots. Besides, I should be thankful that I have a job in the first place.  A lot of people wish they have one, 'yah know!

For today lemme share with you what I use for my eye makeup on days when I don't have much time to spare.  Most especially on a Sunday when I usually don't get much sleep the night before. I wish I can just get away with curling my lashes and loading them up with coats of mascara but it makes me feel like my eyes look a lot more sleepy than usual. Parang they look so plain pa. So what I do is I try to put on at least a layer of eyeshadow. Or use something else that's quick and easy to apply.

Make Up Forever Aqua Shadows

I got these babies during the Oblogger Party at the Beauty Connection Spa some months ago.  These can be used as an eyeliner, an eyeshadow or as an eyeshadow base, if you want to intensify a powder eyeshadow of the same color family.  They are easy to use with minimum to no tugging and they require no brushes to apply.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge: An Inanimate Object That's Important To Me

Oh Saturday, why must you come? Tomorrow's gonna be a Sunday and the start of another (crazy) week. It's unfair that weekdays come in 5 days while weekends come in only 2. Sigh. But let's not dwell on that "disappointment," shall we? Besides,

For today's topic on the 30-day WML Challenge, it's all about that inanimate object that's important to me. I've thought long and hard as to what this thing's gonna be.  Will it be my eyebrow makeup or my concealer? Or my laptop? Then it just hit me. It has got to be nothing else but my....

Na-ah, it's my cellphone!

It's the one thing that makes me feel connected to everybody and to anything. Be it with my family, my friends or even with my work.  Oh yeah, I have my work email in it as well!  Whenever I miss somebody, I send them a message or better yet, give them a call. If I'm in the mood for some throwback memories, I just browse my phone gallery and whenever I do, it never fails to make me smile (or get teary-eyed, even).  Photos bring back memories I had  with anybody. Be it good or bad.

If I need to check on about almost anything: unfamiliar word, directions or even a good place to eat, I always depend on my phone.  A long time ago, I can't leave the house without  wearing a watch. I just feel lost without it. But now with my cellphone, I can.  It's my alarm clock which I also use to remind me on almost anything: meetings, taking of vitamins, etc.  If   I need to record something like meeting notes or presentations, I take photos. If I want to remember anything, I use my phone.

I remember some years ago, my week-old phone got stolen.  My Mom told me not to buy immediately and since she'd be buying a new one in a few days, she'll give me her old phone (which is not really old, as it was only a few months old). Sayang daw my money if I'll buy a new phone aged-agad. It was nearing Christmas day and I didn't have a budget to buy a new phone. Di ko naman alam na mawawalan ako eh.  Anyways, guess what, I bought a new one on the same day I lost my phone. I was trying to pacify myself for two hours but on the 3rd hour, I just told myself that "No, I cannot not have a phone for a few more hours or days." Low EQ? Maybe yes.  But believe me, I just can't imagine my life without a cellphone.  Please, don't judge me.

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 4: A Strange Phone Call

Me: Hello?

Caller: Hello, is this Jheng?
Me: Yes, who's this?
Caller: (started moaning)
Me: Hello!? Hello!? Who is this?
Caller: (still moaning like there's no tomorrow)

Then I realized he was moaning in a sexual way, so I ended the call and threw my phone away  (on my bed, of course)

That phone call happened some years ago when I was still in PH. I first thought that the caller was somebody I know personally because he knows my nickname, Jheng. Not all people know my nickname. Well, at least that's what I know. It was really weird, I was so scared after that I didn't even want to check my phone whenever it beeps for messages. More so when the number calling is unregistered. Nakaka-trauma. I got conscious tuloy and started wondering if I ever go out looking kabastos-bastos for that to happen to me. Or maybe some people get a kick for playing such a bad joke like that or baka lang talaga he has nothing else to do with his so-called life.

How about you, any experience with strange phone calls like I did?

TimHoWan: Home of the Best Pork Buns

Oh yay, it's the weekend!

Any plans? As for me, we'll be attending a kiddie party this afternoon and then I'd probably ask the hubby to bring me to the movies or to a nice dinner.  If you ask me, I prefer to stay at home and chill-ax after a crazy week in the office but I also know that I need a bit of social life.  So fine, mingle with the outside world I will!

When I got back from PH, my friends here in the UAE told me that I've been killing them with envy because I've been posting a lot of food photos when I was still in Manila. I honestly didn't take notice that I've indeed posted a whole lot of food porn. To me, it's nothing extraordinary. I need to eat, I want to eat...and so I eat A LOT. Hahaha!  And so today, I wanted to share with you probably one of the best food experience I had when I was in Manila.  It was so good that we ate there twice. It was with...

I first read about TIMHOWAN years ago when me and my friend Nimfa were planning our HK trip sometime in 2011.  I've read somewhere that this dimsum restaurant is one Hongkong's most famous hole-in-the-wall food joints.  It's so famous that people have to wait for their turn to dine for hours...yes, hours!  TimHoWan is particularly famous with their Pork Buns. Too bad we didn't get the chance to try it. Besides, I don't think my friend's that willing to wait that long to score dimsums. Hahaha. Fastforward to 2013, just when I left Pinas, they opened the first TimHoWan branch in Megamall.

#asar #badtrip #inggit

I've been back to PH twice but never got the chance to try TimHoWan (bakit nga ba?) But when I went home for the 3rd time and I knew that I'd be staying longer, I told myself this is it!  I'm gonna try TimHoWan by hook or by crook and whether they like it or not.

So the first time was at the Megamall branch and I was with Mom and with Sol, who's a fan of TimHoWan's pork buns. I said that because that's the first thing she wanted us to order. Hahaha, and migawd, I don't blame's is really good!

For our second time, it was again with Mom, Mama Wheng and Ate May. They saw the photos I've posted during our first time and they wanted to try it so I (happily and more than willingly) obliged! The second time around was at SM North and that time, I've been able to keep myself from eating the dimsums as soon as they were placed on the table kaya I was able to take photos. The first time kasi, bawat lapag sa table, kain ako agad. I was that excited, haha!

The 30-Day Writing My Life Challenge - Day 3: My Mother

Woohoo, I'm on the 3rd day of this challenge and so far, I can still keep up. Hopefully I'd still be on the roll on the days to come.
(fingers crossed)
So for this day, the topic could either be about your Mom or your Dad.  It's not that I don't like writing about my Mom (heck, she's my most favorite person in the world!) but I wish I could also write something about my Dad. But unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet him at all. But I know that he is not Pinoy (oha, gulat ka no!?) and that I got a lot of physical attributes from him. Yes, I kinda look like my Mom but they say that I also look like my Dad.
My Mom is the second eldest in the brood of five. She had me at the age of 17 and she was only in HS then. Hahaha!  She said she didn't even know she was pregnant with me until she realized her tummy got noticeably bigger on the 5th month. She was isip-bata at that time and all she wanted was to go to discos (yes, that's what they call it back then) and be with her barkadas.  She even planned of giving me away but it all changed when she saw the cute little baby me.  I was born in Manila but she went back to the province after giving birth. There, she continued with her studies while taking part-time jobs.
At a young age, she's already a mother and aside from that, she's also the breadwinner of her family.  I still remember thinking of her as my Aunt and not as my mom. It was then my Aunt, who I called Mama, who took care of me while Mom is studying and working at the same time.  She went abroad to work while I was still in early gradeschool and went back when I was about to start with highschool.
I must say it wasn't easy growing up with a single parent who had you when she was still a kid herself.  Back then, I was always wishing that she'll come home instead and be with me. I've always envied my classmates who have their parents with them during PTA meetings and during recognition days. When she came back, I thought it was going to be all better but I was wrong.  It was like having an all new person in your life. Well, she was really different when she came back. She looks like a porcelain doll and I look like a, hmm nevermind.
We had a lot of disagreements and fights back then.  I honestly hated her for leaving me for years.  I wished she didn't have to leave. But of course, being a single parent and a breadwinner, she has to go way beyond her means to be both.  When she had my sister when I was on junior high (yes, we are half-sisters), I sort of hated her because I felt jealous. Most especially when I saw how she takes care of my sister. I wished she did the same to me.
That chapter is now closed. Now I can say that I finally got to understand her more.  I got to understand that she just wanted to give me, all of us, the best that's why she decided to work abroad. I got to understand that it doesn't mean she loves me less kaya she was taking care of my sister the way she should have taken care of me.  I realized that when she was away, her only way to make me feel that she's there for me was by sending me to the best school and sending me gifts and toys. She was away, and though she wanted to look after me all the time, she simply can't. So when she had my sister, she wanted to make bawi for all that. I thought she was still being unfair because all I felt was jealousy. Yes, inggit ako. I wanted the same caring. But then I was already old enough and my sister's still way too young.

But you know what, I understand everything now.  And I hate myself from hating her back then.  What she was going through that time ain't easy, but she managed. She managed all by herself.  She's such a strong woman. She may not be the perfect Mom there is but for me and my sister, she is. Now I know she'll do everything and anything for us. Whenever I go home for a vacation, she comes with me wherever I go. She's my buddy.  I am 36 and yet, she takes care of me like her baby.  She even prepares my Milo and my food.  She makes sure I am well-fed all the time, hahaha!  Now I can definitely say, bawing-bawi na siya sa lahat. Not that she needs to make bawi at all.
She's my Mom and she's my best friend.
I love her so much and I promise that I will always be here for her.
 Aww Mom, I miss you!
